Gravel - Through the Orketal No. 8
The first few kilometers of this 30-kilometer tour are a great start: from Winterberg, the route is almost entirely downhill along a mountain trail to Hesborn. The way back is also scenically outstanding: the route leads along the Orke river through the Vildischer Grund, a notch valley well worth seeing.

We leave Winterberg heading uphill in a southerly direction and cycle along a great high-level path through the forest towards "Hohe Seite" and then almost exclusively downhill to Hesborn. From here we cross a ridge with an interesting descent to Medelon in the Orketal. The Orketal leads us through the Vildischer Grund to the Ehrenscheider Mühle and invites us to take a break on many a bench in picturesque surroundings. The only difficult hill we have to tackle is up to Winterberg (pushing for the first 200 m), from where we are quickly back on the Bremberg.

Public transit
You can usually reach Winterberg quickly and easily by train. From Hagen, for example, there are connections every hour, from Kassel every 2 hours. The journey from Dortmund to Winterberg and vice versa takes just 104 minutes. Six times per working day or twelve times on Saturday or Sunday. Information about the door-to-door luggage service is available at all DB sales outlets.
