Do you want to get a taste of the real mountain bike feeling, but want to get started without a lift ride? Then this tour is just right for you!
It takes you over the Langenberg, the highest mountain in North Rhine-Westphalia, through breathtakingly beautiful nature reserves with the unique Hochheide areas - a first-class nature experience!
Perfect for beginners or connoisseurs: if you like, take a break in the rustic Hochheide hut before heading to the highlight of the tour - the Bikepark MTB Zone Willingen. There are various route options waiting for you here - we opted for the flow country route: pure fun, smooth, versatile!

Information

Directions

Willingen - Hoppern - Langenberg - Hochheide - Ettelsberg - WillingenFrom the starting point at the Willingen visitor center, we first head towards the summer toboggan run, which is clearly visible to the west. We soon enter the forest and turn left at the next small descent. Now the longest ascent of the tour begins: the route climbs steadily up to the Langenberg, the highest mountain in North Rhine-Westphalia at 847 m above sea level. Once at the top, we stay on the high plateau for a while and continue into the Neuer Hagen nature reserve. There, the cozy Hochheide hut invites you to take a short break. We then cross the largest high-altitude heathland in Europe and head back over to Hessen. Our main direction: the Ettelsberg. But shortly afterwards, at the Lütteke Feld junction, we leave the wide gravel path and turn into the Green Trail - a first, playful foretaste of the bike park! The sections of the Green Trail are great fun - flowy downhill, playful uphill. At the "Große Grube", a replica of a historic coal pile, it's worth taking another short break before continuing up to the Ettelsberg - Willingen's local mountain. There we come directly to the downhill sections of the MTB Zone Willingen. Our track takes you along the Flow Country route, but you can of course choose any other line - you won't get lost. Your GPS device might grumble, but you'll always stay in the bike park. And who knows - maybe next time you'll get a ticket for the lift or simply explore the free Green Trail again. You've already set foot in both worlds!

Equipment

We recommend functional, weather-appropriate cycling clothing, rucksack provisions, sufficient fluids (water, tea), air pump, repair kit and multi-tool.

Author Tip

You should take a short break on the Ettelsberg and enjoy the magnificent view of Willingen on this tour.
