Racing bike - To the Kahler Asten

The road bike tour from Eslohe begins on a former railroad line section of the SauerlandRadring and provides a relaxed start. A striking element of this route is the Fledermaustunnel, which serves as a roost for rare bat species in the winter months. After Fretter, the topography requires a first deliberate ascent before a descent takes the route to Oedingen. There is a further ascent on the way to Bracht. The passage through Haverland to Schmallenberg allows for a period of recovery. Another ascent begins in Winkhausen. The route leads through the picturesque Sorpetal valley to Großer Bildchen and on to Altastenberg. The ascent to the Kahler Asten, the final destination of the tour, is characterized by its consistency and can be mastered evenly despite its length. We recommend spending some time in Winterberg before continuing. From there, the route descends towards Siedlinghausen. After Elpe, the route has a temporary steep incline until Heinrichsdorf. From Ramsbeck, famous for its visitor mine, the Nierbach valley leads cyclists to Meschede in the Ruhrtal. Here, cyclists can expect flat sections along the Hennesee. The circular route closes again in Eslohe via Remblinghausen and Herhagen.

Wearing a bicycle helmet should be a matter of course for all cyclists. Before setting off, check that your bike is in perfect condition. For demanding tours, we recommend packing plenty of drinks and snacks.

A rescue point system has been installed throughout the region (Soest district, Hochsauerlandkreis, Märkischer Kreis, Olpe district and Siegen-Wittgenstein district). Rescue points can be found on the information boards at the junctions of the Südwestfalen cycle network.
