Racing bike - two-country loop (start: Willingen)

The road bike - two-country loop from Willingen is an extensive, multi-faceted circular tour that leads through the charming low mountain range landscape of the Sauerland. Starting in Willingen in Hesse, a center for active vacations in Upland, the route quickly crosses the state border into North Rhine-Westphalia. The route crosses the Rhine-Weser watershed and opens up a succession of picturesque villages as far as Siedlinghausen. This is followed by a significant but evenly manageable climb to the Großer Bildchen. A dynamic descent leads through the Sorpe valley to Bad Fredeburg. Beyond Oberkirchen, another challenging mountain range awaits racing cyclists: the ascent via Westfeld-Ohlenbach, which leads up to below the Kahler Asten. The route then leads via Winterberg and Küstelberg to Düdinghausen, from where it crosses the state border into Hesse again. Before Bömighausen, there is another long climb to complete before the descent towards Diemelsee takes a smooth course. From the lake, the route climbs slightly again to Willingen, but without any challenging gradients. This tour also offers various refreshment stops along the way.

Wearing a bicycle helmet should be a matter of course for all cyclists. Before setting off, check that your bike is in perfect condition. For demanding tours, we recommend packing plenty of drinks and snacks.

A rescue point system has been installed throughout the region (Soest district, Hochsauerland district, Märkischer district, Olpe district and Siegen-Wittgenstein district). Rescue points can be found on the information boards at the junctions of the South Westphalia cycle network.
