Steinheim, train station; Vörden, hiking parking lot at the end of the village in the direction of Marienmünster Abbey or Nieheim, German Cheese Museum
From Steinheim station, head into the town center and, near the church, take Höxterstraße in the direction of Höxter / Hagedorn at the eastern end of the town to cross under the B 252. Immediately after this, turn right into Rolfzener Straße and soon cross under the B 239. You now stay on Rolfzener Straße until you turn right at a farmstead below the Stoppelberg. At the next junction, turn left and follow the old route of the B 239, crossing under the B 239 at the end to reach Rolfzen. In Rolfzen, soon turn left into the street "Zum Schildern", follow the signs for "Radroute Steinheim 2" and you will reach the cemetery. Turn left here and then right again immediately after the cemetery and you will reach the outskirts of Sommersell via a partly unpaved section of road. Follow the road downhill into the village center and turn left in front of the church (signpost house no. 84-82), then left again (signpost no. 81-66), then right and left again. You come to the playground, turn right and shortly after passing under the B 239 you reach the Grevenburg estate. Cycle through the estate, reach the L 886, turn right here and cycle via Münsterbrock following the cycle path signs for "Marienmünster" to Marienmünster Abbey and from there to Vörden. At the entrance to the town, you meet the R 1 cycle path again, which you follow to Nieheim (cycle path signpost "Nieheim"). You can cycle comfortably downhill at first, then the route is largely flat through fields and pastures to Nieheim. From Nieheim, you cycle a short distance along the L 755 towards Merlsheim. Shortly after leaving Nieheim, turn right onto a farm track (cycle route signpost "Radroute Steinheim 5"). The path takes you over the eastern slope of the Brodberg and then, after a left turn, down into the Emmer valley and the so-called Emmerbruch. Follow this upstream to the village of Oeynhausen and turn right towards Bergheim as you pass through the village. Shortly before the railroad line, turn left onto a paved path (hiking signpost "Himmighausen 1.8 km).The path runs close to the railroad until you reach Himmighausen, where you cross under the railroad and pass the castle on your way through the village. Turn right and at the end of the village you reach the R 1 cycle path and follow the signpost "Sandebeck 3.2 km".The route initially runs above the Fischbach stream and later takes you through a hilly landscape of pastures with many wooded areas, always within sight of the railroad line, until you reach Sandebeck. From here, follow the cycle path signs to Steinheim. Our route initially takes you along the Mühlenbach stream to the Wintrup estate. Shortly before Vinsebeck, the Mühlenbach picks up the Silberbach, promptly loses its name and from then on is called Heubach. The cycle path now takes you through the Heubach valley, partly along the watercourse, to Vinsebeck moated castle and then on to the Vordereichholz and Hintereichholz estates. Turn left before the railroad line and, after a winding ride through the Heubach lowlands, you will reach Steinheim. Via Heubachstraße and Sedanstraße you reach our starting point at the station.
The shortened version of this route runs north from Nieheim on the cycle path through the picturesque Emmertal valley (follow the "Steinheim" cycle path signs) to Steinheim. (31 km)
Another option is to cycle this tour as a two-town tour. To do this, follow the cycle path in the Emmertal from Steinheim in a southerly direction to Nieheim (follow the "Nieheim" cycle path signs). From there, follow the route described via Sandebeck. (35 km)
