Signage in the Sauerland

Reliable wayfinding on all bike paths—clear, consistent, and easy to read

NRW Cycling Network – Cycling in the Sauerland

Enjoy a relaxing bike ride on North Rhine-Westphalia’s well-signposted cycling network. Thanks to the standardized junction system, you’ll have no trouble finding the right route and can focus entirely on the stunning scenery of the Sauerland.

Junction Points – Orientation at a Glance

  • Red numbers above the signposts clearly mark each junction.
  • Information boards feature map sections, suggested routes to the nearest junctions, and information on nearby attractions.

Arrow Signposts – Destinations, Distances, & Route Information

The arrow signs indicate both nearby and distant destinations with kilometer distances.
Additional pictograms provide further information, for example:

  • Indications of train stations or tourist information centers

Inserts based on HBR NRW (Guidelines for Directional Signage for Bicycle Traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia)

  • Red numbers: Direction and number of the next junction
  • Additional pictograms: Markings for interregional bike paths such as the Ruhr Valley Bike Path or the Sauerland Bike Ring

Intermediate signposts – Safety along the route

Intermediate signposts confirm the route when there are no junctions. They do not include destination or distance information, nor do they feature route logos—but they serve as a valuable orientation aid along the way.
