Schloss Haus Sassendorf, a stately residence often referred to as a 'house' in northern Germany, is discreetly located on the edge of the spa gardens, surrounded by mature trees. It is a privately used property whose interior is not accessible to visitors. However, the exterior of this historic site provides an insight into its architectural history. It was built in 1785 by Franz Gottfried von Bockum, known as Dolffs zu Sassendorf, and his wife Sophie Dorothea Maria von Menge. Franz Gottfried von Bockum held the office of Prussian chamberlain and, as a hereditary salt worker, had rights to the salt production in Bad Sassendorf. The coat of arms of the von Bockum-Dolffs family adorns the gable of the main building. Architecturally, the estate represents a late Baroque building, characterized by its axial symmetry. The flanking half-timbered buildings of the castle complex originally served as farm buildings.
