The Alte Soestweg, a regional cycle tour, is a cycle-friendly, family-friendly route. It is characterized by its precise signposting and striking natural highlights, which offer a differentiated landscape experience.
The route of the Old Soest Trail through the 230-hectare former military area between Büecke and Hiddingsen is a landscape jewel. This area, which is now part of the international protected area system "Natura 2000", is characterized by a rich, naturally developing flora and fauna, which has recultivated the former military training area. Today, the structure of the Kleiberg nature reserve reflects the pre-industrial agriculture of the Soester Börde. Here, semi-wild horses, Heck cattle and flocks of sheep contribute to keeping the cultivated landscape open as natural grazing animals. The specially created viewing platforms provide a space for contemplation and observation of the wildlife, especially during the rearing of the young in spring.
