The Butterfly Route establishes a striking link between the Sauerlandpark Hemer and the nationally renowned Ruhr Valley Cycle Route. Starting from the mouth of the Hönne, the route unfolds along the picturesque River Hönne, accompanied by an attractive natural backdrop. The route along the Hönne promenade also provides a direct transition to the historic town center of Menden, whose architectural heritage is manifested in the numerous, carefully restored half-timbered houses. The route continues along a former railroad line that leads from Menden to Hemer. Along the production facilities of Grohe AG, access is provided to the Sauerlandpark Hemer, an area that underwent a comprehensive transformation as a state garden show site in 2010, as well as to the geologically significant Felsenmeer. At the "Neuer Markt" in Hemer, the tour continues in the direction of Iserlohn, again using a former railroad line in sections for a pleasant ride. The passage through the Iserlohn leisure center, which surrounds the Seilersee lake, continues through the picturesque Baartal valley, which is home to the historically relevant museum village of Barendorf. The final return to the starting point is via a section of the Ruhr Valley cycle path. Alternatively, it is possible to choose the starting point of the route at Iserlohn city railway station (KNP 55), which allows the tour to be organized flexibly. Along the entire route, the urban centers offer various places to stop for refreshments.
