Großmicketal - nature experience trail near Wenden

The region around Wenden reveals a multifaceted natural landscape on this cycle tour, which is characterized by its special features. The route leads along five designated nature reserves and offers moderate gradients that make it easier to explore the surrounding nature. A cultural highlight along the way is the Wendener Hütte Museum, which is the oldest surviving charcoal blast furnace in Western Europe and is of significant historical importance. The exploration begins in the Mittagsbrüche nature reserve, an extensive wet meadow complex that merges into smaller arable areas. The adjoining Wendequellgebiet nature reserve acts as a link to the continuing passage through the Wiehbruch nature reserve. The trail then leads past the Dörnschlade pilgrimage chapel before the tour reaches the Großmicketal nature reserve. The crowning glory of the route is the Biggetal nature reserve, whose expansive floodplain allows the river to develop largely naturally. The best starting point for a bike tour is the parking lot in the floodplain of the Wendebach, directly below the Wenden town hall. You can also park at the Wendener Hütte museum, but parking there is limited.
