The Kiersper Talsperrenroute, designed as a circular route, opens up impressive landscapes and cultural evidence of the Märkischer Kreis. Along this route, the historic Rönsahl distillery and the district of Rönsahl itself are the main points of interest. The listed historic distillery, formerly under the management of the Krugmann distillery, represents a preserved industrial monument. Since 2008, an association has been committed to the preservation and use of this building, which has become an established center for cultural events and gatherings. The district of Rönsahl presents a historically grown core. Characteristic elements of the market square are the former town hall, the local church and the house "Vor dem Isern". The repeated award in the "Our village has a future" competition underlines the appreciation for Rönsahl's development and gives it the official title of "Gold Village".

Directions

From the market square (to the left of the church), turn left along the main road to the historic distillery. Turn right here into "Kerspeweg" and follow the road. Pass Großfastenrath along the Kerspetalsperre water protection zone in the direction of Voswinkel. Continue through "Auf dem Heede" and Engstfeld to the crossroads, then turn right towards Anschlag. After Anschlag, take the next road on the right towards Mühlen-Schmidthausen. Follow the main road to Mühlen-Schmidthausen, through the village and on towards Kierspe. In Kierspe, cross the first junction in the direction of Eicken. After Eicken, cross the junction, through Padberg and the industrial estate to the crossroads. Turn right here onto the B 237 and ride up to Neuenhagen, then take a sharp left towards Wilbringhausen. Follow the road through Höhlen and Wilbringhausen to the crossroads, then turn right. At the crossroads behind Lienkamp, take the first exit on the right at the traffic circle, in Hövel continue over the crossroads towards Wernscheid. Drive through Wernscheid to Lambach. Keep right there in the direction of Kierspe. Follow the road to the fork at Benninghausen, keep left there and continue to Grünenweg. There go straight over the B 237 towards Dörscheln/Haarhausen. Cross the next junction to Haarhausen and follow the road through the village. Keep left at the fork and follow the paved road to Rönsahl back to the market square.

Author Tip

There are other excursion destinations near the dam route:
The Wienhagen Tower is a worthwhile destination for a hike through the charming landscape. It is located at 479 m above sea level and is open all year round for use at your own risk. During the renovation in 2000, the Kiersper artist Werner Baumgart painted the inside of the tower according to the motto "Run through time".

The Bakelite Museum in the Old Office Building in Kierspe displays a diverse collection of used plastic objects, e.g. the famous old black telephones. The Bakelite Museum is open on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.; further appointments are possible for groups by arrangement: heimatverein@kierspe.de

Public transit

The MVG bus line 94 and the OVAG bus line 336 run in Rönsahl.
The bus stop "Rönsahl Markt" is located in the immediate vicinity of the market square.

How to get there

The market square is located in the middle of Rönsahl and can be reached via the B 237 and the K 2. Coming from Kierspe, take the B 237 in the direction of Rönsahl. After the town entrance sign, you will find the market square at the junction onto the K 2 on the right-hand side. Coming from Wipperfürth, also take the B 237 into the town and you will find the market square just after the pedestrian lights on the left-hand side. If you are coming from Kierspe via the K 2 in the direction of Rönsahl, you will find the market square at the end of the K 2.
