Plettenberg: Castles and palaces - Tour

The regional cycle tour "Plettenberg: castles and palaces" allows you to explore a historic cultural landscape. The route leads past striking buildings such as Schnellenberg Castle, Ahausen Castle, "Haus Bamenohl" Castle, Lenhausen Castle and the ruins of Schwarzenberg Castle. The circular route has a varying topography, starting with a significant ascent and later moderate gradients. There are various places to stop for refreshments along the route to help you plan your own individual tour. The route runs mainly on paved paths, including a section of forest path that is easy to cycle on. The starting point is Maiplatz in Plettenberg with its gastronomic offerings. The route opens up the Grünetal valley and leads along the Grüne to Landemert, from where far-reaching views open up. Attendorn is reached via Hülschotten and a descent to Ennest, where the Atta Cave, a geologically significant site, is passed. The cycle route then runs into the Bigge valley, past Schnellenberg Castle, the Ahaus reservoir and Ahausen Castle, to where the Bigge flows into the Lenne near Finnentrop. A detour to "Haus Bamenohl" castle, a private estate with historic rooms, is possible. Finnentrop offers a Lenne promenade. The tour continues via Lenhausen to the castle there and to Pasel with its half-timbered houses. The ruins of Schwarzenberg Castle are another striking point before the level paths lead back to Plettenberg. After the tour, the Plettenberg town area offers a variety of options for gastronomic relaxation.
