Plettenberg: MTB mountain goat tour

The circular tour through Plettenberg starts in the urban center of the town. Before the actual start of the circular route, the town center offers various refreshment options. The route then leads past the town hall into the Grünetal valley, which stands out as one of Plettenberg's four characteristic valleys. A moderate ascent marks the transition from the urban structures to the surrounding nature. Within the Grünetal valley, a newly created cycle path initially runs largely flat along the Grünebach stream. This is followed by a second, more physically demanding ascent. This is followed by a section on unpaved field and forest paths, which should preferably be ridden on a mountain bike; experienced cyclists can also tackle this section on a touring bike or pedelec if the weather is suitable. After the section of dirt road, the route briefly crosses a country road before crossing the village of Hülschotten. After reaching the village of Sonneborn, the most challenging climbs of the circular route are completed. From this point onwards, the rest of the route is characterized by long descents on asphalted paths, primarily through wooded areas. Cyclists can expect an extended descent accompanied by extensive nature experiences. This descent is only interrupted by the passage of the tranquil Humberg district. During the descent, pay particular attention to the possible presence of wild animals such as deer and wild boar, especially at dusk. After the descent, the cycle path leads consistently back into the urban area of Plettenberg.

• Cycle path in the Grüne valley - The cycle path in the Grüne valley is beautifully situated. After an initial gentle climb, it runs alongside the Grünebach stream and is relatively flat for a rest. This is followed by the second, somewhat more challenging ascent.


• Gasthof Käsebrink in Landemert - The Gasthof Käsebrink offers good home-style cooking and a refreshing drink. Opening hours are from 5 p.m. (except Tue, Wed) and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays.


• Sonneborn - An agricultural village with natural farming methods. Pastures and freely grazing sheep and cows characterize the landscape.
