The red logo of the "Rothaar-Radroute" first takes you from Schmallenberg to the heights of the Rothaargebirge, then through the Eder valley to Bad Berleburg Castle. The residence of the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg royal family and its adjoining parks are a real highlight. You can take a break in the restaurant near the castle to refuel your bike to 100%.On the way back, you cross the Rothaarsteig again and finally reach the hilltop village of Schmallenberg-Schanze, where two restaurants invite you to stop for a bite to eat. From now on, it's time to "let it roll" - you cycle steadily downhill on a road with little traffic to Grafschaft, which is another visual highlight of the tour with its monastery of the same name and beautiful half-timbered houses. Now it's another 3 relaxed kilometers to the historic old town of Schmallenberg, the starting point of your tour.
Please wear sturdy shoes and take enough food with you.
Wearing a cycle helmet should be a matter of course for all cyclists.
Between Jagdhaus and Wingeshausen, on the south side of the Rothaargebirge, there is a short, gravelled steep section of approx. 50 meters. It is recommended to push the bike on this short section.
For e-bikes, the battery power should be checked in Jagdhaus (battery charging is possible during a stop at the local hotels). From Bad Berleburg, a battery capacity of at least 2/3 of the battery capacity is recommended in order to make the way back over the Rothaar ridge.
Visit Bad Berleburg Castle.
Bus routes 466, 367, 369, SB9 and S90 run in Schmallenberg. Use the bus stop "Habbel" to get to the starting point of the tour.
