Ruhr-Valme-Henne Tour

The Ruhr-Valme-Henne Tour, a regional cycle tour in the Hochsauerland district, combines the experience of three striking watercourses in a coherent circular route. The starting point in Bestwig marks the beginning of a route that initially follows the section of a former railroad line known as the "Bähnchen" via Heringhausen to Ramsbeck. The route then crosses the Valmetal valley, characterized by a moderate but steady ascent to Bödefeld. From Westernbödefeld, the cycle path leads along a country road, which is left at Höringhausen. A subsequent, challenging climb near Köttinghausen reveals the backdrop of imposing wind turbines before the route gently descends into the Ruhr Valley. After crossing the country road again at Remblinghausen, the tour returns to Meschede via Löllinghausen. Here the route meets the River Henne, which flows out of the Henne dam through a beautifully landscaped park area before flowing into the Ruhr. One option is to take a detour to the Hennesee lake, where there is an opportunity for recreation and refreshment. The final section leads along the established Ruhr Valley cycle path through Meschede and Wehrstapel to complete the circle in Bestwig. This tour offers a varied perspective on the geographical and cultural features of the region.

A rescue point system has been installed throughout the region (Soest district, Hochsauerland district, Märkischer district, Olpe district and Siegen-Wittgenstein district). Rescue points can be found on the information boards at the junctions of the South Westphalia cycle network.

In Meschede, we recommend the HenneBoulevards. This leads from Meschede town center to the Hennesee lake. The highlight there is the stairway to heaven.
