The short version of the SauerlandRadring is characterized by an iconic signpost that shows a cyclist in front of the stylized silhouette of the Fledermaustunnel. This special feature is a highlight of the circular tour. The route from Schmallenberg to the Fledermaustunnel runs mainly along a historic railroad embankment, whose former function can be authentically experienced through the many relics along the route. The shorter version of the SauerlandRadring branches off from the main route in Kückelheim and then runs over the characteristic gentle hills of the Schmallenberger Hawerland before returning to the traditional town of Schmallenberg. Cultural aspects characterize the landscape it crosses and open up various options for a stop along the way. The bat tunnel serves as an important refuge for bats in the winter months; during this period, an alternative, scenic bypass is signposted.

Information

Directions

Always follow the signposts for the short version of the SauerlandRadring. Attention!1) Follow the cycle path behind the second traffic circle (Alltagsmenschen) between the Netto supermarket and the sports center.2) The small town of Eslohe is located between Bremke and Kückelheim. There are numerous places to stop for refreshments to recharge your batteries for the onward journey.3) On the way to the Fledermaustunnel from Eslohe, you cross a high railroad bridge.4) You cross the Fledermaustunnel and cycle back through it and finally reach the starting point of the shortened SauerlandRadring before the high railroad bridge. Here you will find the first yellow signpost on your left, which leads you under the above-mentioned bridge to the village of Kückelheim. From this point, follow the marked route back to Schmallenberg.Note: The bat tunnel is closed from November to April and is there entirely for the bats that hibernate there. During this time, the signposted, somewhat more challenging winter bypass applies.5) After approx. 2.4 km, turn sharp left off this main road and cycle over a steep (approx. 1. km steeply uphill) ridge to Isingheim.6) In Isingheim, turn right towards Lüdingheim as far as Niederlandebeck.7) In Niederlandebeck, make sure you find the signpost, turn left and pass the "Hamm" tree nursery.8) Then turn right and you will see a no traffic sign. Don't be confused by this sign, you have the right of passage as far as Arpe.9) Through Arpe, pay attention to the road sign and you will reach the sports field. Turn right here and cycle along a gravel road to Selkentrop.10) Through Selkentrop, pay attention to the road sign.11) In Felbecke, cycle past the church and onto the cycle path towards Schmallenberg, which runs to the left of the road.
